Jacob Zuma Foundation spokesperson Mzwanele Manyi says President Cyril Ramaphosa remains charged despite the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg ruling otherwise.

On Monday, 16 January, the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg granted President Cyril Ramaphosa an urgent interdict against the former statesman’s private prosecution. This means that the President no longer has to appear before the same court on Thursday, 19 January 2023.

ZUMA FOUNDATION SAYS RAMAPHOSA REMAINS CHARGED

Speaking outside court Manyi said they are not happy with the decision, and it doesn’t look like justice has been served.

“The bottom line is that President Cyril Ramaphosa continues to be a charged person, and the case continues,” Manyi said.

As previously reported, Ramaphosa approached the court after former President Jacob Zuma charged him with being an accessory after the fact in his case against State prosecutor Billy Downer and journalist Karyn Maughan.

Zuma accused them of breaching the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Act by leaking his confidential medical records in the arms deal case. He also argued that Ramaphosa failed to act after the complaint was made.

The Jacob Zuma Foundation previously said if the case is strong as the Prosecution believes, then the accused (Ramaphosa) will be convicted and sentenced to 15 years.

“If, on the other hand, the case is weak, as Ramaphosa asserts, then he will either be acquitted or given a lesser sentence at the end of the trial,” the Foundation’s spokesperson, Mzwanele Manyi, said.
