It’s D-Day for the State, Dewani might walk

Three years of the public’s tax money spent trying to get him here, but the prosecution’s case is so weak that he might be going home.

It’s D-Day for the State, Dewa

Extradition orders, legal costs and a case that, according to judge Jeanette Traverso, seems like it’s not even all put together yet; this is the state of the… state’s prosecution of Shrien Dewani. Despite the millions this bungled operation has cost the South African public, the embarrassment to our police service and partially functional NPA is irreparable.

Three years is a hell of a long time to get your sh*t together, but it seems the SAPS and NPA spent more time trying to throw their considerable — even if not in power, then surely in girth — weight around in getting the man here, than prepping for what they’d do once he is here. Dewani’s defense, Francois van Zyl, has been ripping the prosecution to shreds and last week asked the judge to throw the case out.

This week we’ll find out if el policite screwed up yet again.
