A group of former Transnet executives who were arrested on Monday are set to face the consequences of their state capture sins. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has filed a watertight case against the corruption accused, who are all back in court next month.
NPA tease ‘shock arrests’ in near future
But will the next round of arrests go one step further?
Sindiswe Seboka of the NPA revealed on Tuesday that their next arrests ‘could SHOCK South Africa’. What is more, the crime-busting official also refused to rule out the possibility of serving politician being placed in handcuffs some time soon:
“We haven’t just arrested any Tom, Dick, or Harry. These are accomplished accountants – one of them has won many awards. There’s no way any of those arrested didn’t know what crimes were being committed. The next group of people the NPA arrest might actually shock everyone.”

Transnet officials derailed by state plundering
Former Transnet group CEO Brian Molefe and former head of finance Anoj Singh were among those arrested by the NPA on Monday. Gupta-linked Regiments Capital executives Litha Nyhonyha and Niven Pillay also appeared in the dock.
Their arrests are linked to a R93 million train purchase tender. All parties stand accused of breaching the Public Finance Management Act, fraud, corruption, and money laundering. They were each released on R50 000 bail. The trial will resume on Friday 14 October.
