There’s talk – and that’s all it is right now – of a Cabinet reshuffle happening in the near future. President Ramaphosa, who’s often reluctant to switch-up his deck, is reportedly weighing up a new-look inner circle, after a multitude of government failures came to the surface. Several ministers may soon find themselves on the chopping block.
John Steenhuisen has caught wind of these whispers – and if he had it his way, the Cabinet reshuffle would have taken place yesterday. The DA leader reacted to Cyril’s lockdown address on Sunday evening, and after critiquing some of the restrictions that still remain in place, the 46-year-old made his opinions known on certain ministers.
Steenhuisen picked out FOUR ministers who he believes should be dismissed from their positions immediately. Although he spared the Head of the Defence Ministry, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, from the hairdryer treatment, the opposition frontman did call out some of her well-known colleagues, providing us with his following ‘dismissal wish-list’:
Not one to mince his words, John Steenhuisen believes the only way South Africans can put their faith in the President again will be if he takes decisive action, via a sweeping Cabinet reshuffle. But Cyril still has some thinking to do…
“President Ramaphosa should have reassured the nation by announcing a Cabinet reshuffle and a clean-up. Nothing else is going to cut it. It beggars belief that Mkhize is still on fully-paid leave, over six weeks after his suspension. Both Bheki Cele and Ayanda Dlodlo have completely failed South Africa in the past few weeks, too.”
“Meanwhile, the hapless Gwede Mantashe must be replaced with someone who understands the urgency to bring down the cost and increase the supply of electricity by opening South Africa’s energy market. Structural reform has never been more urgent – and any minister standing in the way of progress must be summarily replaced.” | John Steenhuisen
From Zweli Mkhize, to Bheki Cele, Ayanda Dlodlo and Gwede Mantashe – President Ramaphosa must urgently announce a cabinet clean up and appoint individuals that will get things done.
