Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram crash, social media users in panic

Anarchy ensues! Facebook, Instagram and messaging app WhatsApp have all crashed on Monday afternoon, sending users into a spin.

You might well be feeling a strange sense of panic right now if you’re one of the millions of people around the world glued to their social media accounts. WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram, as well as Facebook Messenger – some of the worlds most prolifically popular social media sites – have all crashed on Monday afternoon. 

Down Detector confirmed that outages have been reported across the globe, with each of the social media and the hugely popular WhatsApp communication sites having crashed at around the same time, at 17:44 local South African time.

According to Down Detector – one of the most trusted troubleshooting sites – the servers for each of the sites, which are all property of the Facebook, Inc holding company owned by billionaire Mark Zuckerberg, have been out of action for nearly 45 minutes at time of publication. 

Thank goodness for the real MVP – Twitter 

Twitter now remains the most widely used site still standing, and the social media giants users responded to the crashes in typically snarky fashion:
