A 20-year-old man from Springbok in the Northern Cape recently died on a US farm after suffocating in a soybean silo.

YOUNG SA MAN DIED LAST MONTH ON A US FARM

According to a report by Maroela Media, Nantes Lennox had been working on the farm at Itta Bena near Jackson, Mississippi, since March.

He performed general farm work.

His father, Eugene (55), told Maroela Media on Tuesday that his son and four other men were reportedly working inside the silo when three of them got into trouble.

Nantes and another man were both buried under the beans, but the other man was rescued in time.

However, Nantes’s body was only taken out of this silo about five hours later.

His body is currently at a mortuary in Jackson where, among other things, a death certificate is awaited, which must indicate that Lennox died in an accident.

NANTES AND ANOTHER MAN WERE BOTH BURIED UNDER THE BEANS

Nantes’s parents reportedly do not yet know when their son’s body will be sent back to South Africa so that they can bury him.

It is believed all the arrangements for Nantes’s funeral in Springbok have already been finalised.

This was done with the help of the close-knit community and a local pastor who has supported the family since the tragedy.

“It’s a pain that people can’t console. But the community definitely carries us. The people here with us are the salt of the earth.”

Eugene told Maroela Media

Nantes was described as a vivacious and interesting person. He loved jokes and loved to laugh very, very much.

Eugene said Nantes was also very fond of music and could sing well. He taught himself to play the guitar.
