Polokwane: Farm attack suspect shot dead after elderly woman raped

SAPS in Polokwane, Limpopo have been praised for their swift response, after a group of farm attack suspects attempted to flee a property in Dendron. After violating the elderly occupants of the house, three of the crooks were located by the police – resulting in a deadly shootout.

The cops came out on top in this particular battle, as two of the offenders have been taken into custody. A third suspect was shot dead when fire was exchanged between both parties. The brave reaction of the officers was certainly commendable, but they were powerless to prevent the brutal farm attack from initially taking place.

The wife was allegedly raped by one of the gang. The husband was seriously assaulted with metal pipes, and a 96-year-old occupant was apparently spared any violence. Whether by design or chance, that’s not yet been established. Arrive Alive reported the breaking news of the disturbance earlier on Wednesday:

“The crossing Marshall and Grobler street is closed due to a crime scene. Two elderly people were attacked this morning on their farm. It is reported that the man was shot and his wife beaten.”

“Both are currently in Hospital. The suspects fled in a stolen Nissan and were spotted by SAPS on the R101. After a shootout, two suspects were arrested. The third suspect was later killed in a shootout.”

Meanwhile, the DA’s provincial leader Jacques Smalle revealed further details of the assault, confirming that the criminals had targeted the couple’s two-way radios, so they were unable to ask for help during their ordeal. Smalle has also extended his best wishes to the family following the farm attack:

“During the violent altercation the lady was raped and shot in the leg and her husband was seriously assaulted with pipes. They were taken to a hospital in Polokwane by helicopter and are in a serious, but stable condition. A 96-year-old woman who was also in the house was spared any physical injuries.”

“Two of the farm attacker suspects were arrested and one was shot dead. We send our sincere well wishes to the couple and hope for their speedy and complete recovery. It is confirmed that the suspects robbed the household of their two-way radios used by the farmers in the area for emergencies and fled in the victims’ vehicle.”
