How far is too far? Comedian forced to apologise for posing with Trump’s ‘severed head’

It wouldn’t make a great addition to Mount Rushmore, would it?

US comic Kathy Griffin has been forced to apologize after she appeared in a video holding a likeness to the decapitated head of Donald Trump.

It’s a move that has been widely lambasted by both left and right-wing political commentators, and Kathy has had to pay a hefty price for her actions.

She’s been forced to cancel five of her upcoming sh s, and has lost the right to host any network TV specials, including CNN’s New Year’s spectacular.

Though she used a hastily arranged press conference on Friday to express her sincere apologies, Kathy remained defiant in the face of both public and governmental pressure, disclosing that the Secret Service had been in contact with her and were treating the incident.

At one point, Griffin vowed to continue her opposition to the 45th President of the United States, combatively saying “I’m not laying down for this guy,” “I’m going to keep making jokes about him.”

The Reaction: Who said what?

“Kathy Griffin’s career was over long before she attempted to make a disgusting joke about decapitating the President. What she did was wrong and President Trump and his family have every right to condemn it.” – Republican spokesperson Mike Reed

“Whether or not you get, or like, her artistic expression, in America, Kathy has the right to parody the president,” Bloom said. “She never imagined it would be misinterpreted as a threat of violence against Trump.” – Griffin’s attorney, Lisa Bloom

“She should be ashamed of herself!” – Donald Trump… Very rarely NOT involved in a discussion about himself.

Griffin maintained that the video was a satirical nod to Trump’s remark last summer that former Fox News Channel personality Megyn Kelly had “blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of wherever.” However, very few have seen the funny side.

The comedy veteran’s unfortunate actions have reignited the debate about censorship. Trump himself may come across as a bully, but posing with a president’s (supposed) dismembered head is an utterly thoughtless move from someone who has spent her whole life under media scrutiny.
