It is believed that a newlywed Joburg couple was electrocuted a day after they returned from their honeymoon.

Police are investigating the deaths of a newlywed couple who was electrocuted a day after they returned from their honeymoon.

Captain Mavela Masondo, police spokesperson said an inquest is being investigated.

“It is suspected that the couple was electrocuted. Police are still waiting for the post-mortem results that will confirm the cause of death.”

PROBE INTO HOW JOBURG COUPLE WERE ELECTROCUTED

According to media reports, City Power CEO Mongezi Ntsokolo has ordered an urgent investigation into allegations that a fault, caused by illegal electricity connections, was to blame for the death of the newlywed Johannesburg couple, Zaheer Sarang and Nabeelah Khan.

Ntsokolo was quoted saying a preliminary investigation was underway to establish what transpired.

He said: “Details will be provided at a later stage. While we a busy with investigations, we urge the residents to desist from tampering with electricity infrastructure, vandalism, and illegal connections which may lead to the circuit malfunctioning,” Ntsokolo added.

According to Laudium Today it is believed that Khan was in the shower when she collapsed after allegedly touching the taps and when the husband rushed in to help, he also got electrocuted and fell to the ground.

The publication said residents in the area have been complaining about constant blackouts and power surges.
