Marshall Security managing director Tyrone Powell said that at approximately 3.30pm on Wednesday afternoon the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a call from a member of the public who stated that they were witness to a house robbery in progress at a residence on St Andrews Drive in the Durban North area.

“The suspects had forced entry into the premises and tied up the domestic worker, taking her cellphone in the process. Multiple Armed Response Officers and members of our Special Operations Team were immediately dispatched,“ Powell said.

“While our teams were on route to the scene, further information was received from members of the public that four armed suspects had fled the scene in different directions. While two suspects continued to flee on foot, the other two were seen jumping into an awaiting getaway vehicle, a fifth suspect behind the wheel. A description of the vehicle, a red Toyota Corolla, was circulated to our ground team,” Powell said.

He said members of the firm’s Special Ops Team spotted the suspects’ vehicle traveling up Mackeurtan Avenue a short while later and immediately gave chase, managing to bring the vehicle to a stop.

“The three suspects were immediately arrested. An unlicensed firearm, two knives, and housebreaking implements were found in their possession. The firearm was identified as stolen from a private security officer in Durban over the weekend. It was also established that the vehicle had been fitted with false plates,” Powell said.

All three suspects were handed over to the Durban North Police, who arrived swiftly at the scene.”

An extensive search was conducted in the surrounding area to locate the fourth suspect, however he managed to evade arrest.
