Alleged house robbery suspect shot dead in Umgeni Park

A house robbery suspect was allegedly shot dead while trying to execute the crime in Umgeni Park, KwaZulu-Natal. 

The incident happened on Wednesday night, 30 November 2022.

According to emergency service, Emer-G-Med, paramedics responded to the scene of a shooting incident at a residential premises in Ridgeside Road in the Umgeni Park area north of Durban.

On arrival on scene a male believed to be approximately thirty years of age was found to have sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on arrival of paramedics.

Spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said reports from the scene alleged the man to have been a suspect in a house robbery at the premises, however the circumstances surrounding the incident and the events preceding it are unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Services (SAPS) investigation.

In a separate incident, a female homeowner was seriously injured after she shot dead one of the suspects who had invaded her home in Waller Crescent in Morningside, Durban.  The incident happened on Wednesday night, 19 October around 20:00. 

According to emergency service Emer-G-Med, reports from the scene are that a female homeowner suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was found in a critical condition.

Spokesperson, Kyle van Reenen said Advanced Life Support intervention was needed to stabilise her before she was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further care.

“A male approximately thirty years of age was found to have sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on arrival of paramedics.

“Reports from the scene allege that a number of armed suspects forced entry into the home holding up the family and a shooting ensued with the suspect suffering fatal gunshot wounds.”
