HOME AFFAIRS OFFICIAL SOUGHT BY THE HAWKS

Kagiso Ronny Maboa (38) is sought following an investigation which started in April 2022, said Hawks spokesperson Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi.

It is alleged that he colluded with a Pakistani Mastermind to facilitate foreign nationals to obtain South African passports fraudulently.

“This was made possible by using South African citizens’ identity details when processing the applications. A warrant for his arrest has been issued hence he is sought,”

said Sekgotodi.

She urged members of the public to assist in locating Maboa. They can contact the investigation officer, Captain Sam Kolobe on 0714813126 or by sending a tip off via MySAPSApp. All information received will be treated with the strictest confidentiality.

FIVE BUSTED FOR PASSPORT FRAUD

Meanwhile, in May, five people were arrested for being part of a racket that lures South African citizens to sell their personal details to foreign nationals in order for them to get SA passports.

Nhlanhla Mathebula, 39, Mohamed Ali, 36, Gabriel Samuel van der Merwe, 32, Christopher Marillier, 38, and Sfiso Kheswa, 30, were arrested by the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation team based in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, on May 19 in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg, and White River in Mpumalanga.

The group were charged with fraud, corruption and contravening the Immigration Act and appeared in court.

“Investigations revealed that on October 13 2021, Mathebula colluded with the alleged kingpin, Ali from Pakistan. He recruited South African citizens to offer their personal details in order for foreigners to get South African passports using them in exchange for payment,”

said Sekgotodi.

She further said that South African citizens would use their particulars and fingerprints to apply for the passports but the photos of foreign nationals would be the ones captured.

Moreover, this was reportedly facilitated by home affairs officials working after hours. The South African citizens were allegedly paid R500 each for the use of their particulars by foreign nationals.
