Cape Town cops looking for hit-and-run driver in Christmas pedestrian death

The police are looking for the unknown driver of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run incident along Jakes Gerwel Drive on Christmas.

The police in Bishop Lavis, Cape Town is turning to the public for help with tracking down the driver of a motor vehicle involved in a hit-and-run incident in Bonteheuwel late in 2022.

CAPE TOWN COPS SEEK CHRISTMAS HIT-AND-RUN DRIVER

Police spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala said an unknown man sustained fatal injuries when he was hit by a car on Jakes Gerwel Drive between 20:30 and 21:35 on Sunday, 25 December.

“The driver fled the scene in an unknown direction. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel,” said Gwala.

Members of the public with information about the incident that could assist the investigation are encouraged to contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer van Schalkwyk, at 082-312-7221 or call the Crime Stop hotline at 08600-10111.

In an unrelated incident in 2022, a suspect ran over a metro police officer in Philippi, Cape Town. The suspect, an amaphela taxi driver, was handed to the authorities by the owner of the vehicle he drove.
