Hillary Gardee was shot in ‘execution-style’ and forced to withdraw R1300

The EFF and Hillary Gardee’s family say they suspect that there is a deeper motive to her killing and that this was not a common criminal act.

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) spokesperson, Sinawo Thambo says it’s concerning that  when police removed Hillary Gardee’s body from the crime scene they did not pick up that she was shot.

The 28-year-old daughter of the EFF’s Head of International Relations, Godrich Gardee was reported missing on 29 April in Nelspruit and her body was found by farm workers in Nelspruit on 3 May.

GARDEE FAMILY: ‘HILLARY WAS FORCED TO WITHDRAW R1300 BEFORE SHE DIED’

The EFF had visited the Gardee family on Wednesday.

Addressing the media after their visit, EFF and Gardee family spokesperson, Sinawo Thambo said it is very concerning that police completely missed that she was shot.

“They moved the body from the crime scene without picking up that a bullet had entered her head. That is incompetence that leads to vigilante groups being formed in communities . How do you miss such a thing?” Thambo asked.

Thambo said it has been confirmed that there were transactions from Gardee’s bank accounts between 3 – 4 hours from the time she was abducted. She reportedly sent cash sends and e-wallets to herself.

“With the revelation that there was a bullet we are also suspecting that this might be a deviation to try and characterise this as a common criminal act. We are looking at everything with suspicion.

“We do not want to enter into the realm of speculation but one cannot shoot somebody in the head for a transaction of R1300, the risk is too high. It doesn’t inspire us to believe that this is a common criminal act to steal petty cash where you can risk a life sentence to steal an amount of money that is not worth it. If you can afford a gun and ammunition you don’t need that much money to conduct a crime.”
