Hijacking horror: Passenger killed at traffic lights in Kyalami

One man was killed and a female driver seriously injured after a botched hijacking attempt took place in Kyalami. SAPS are on the hunt for two suspects.

Gauteng SAPS have launched manhunt to find two suspects behind a heinous hijacking in Kyalami, Johannesburg on Tuesday. A female driver was left badly injured, and her male passenger was tragically gunned down during the harrowing ordeal.

Kyalami hijacking – what we know so far:

The incident took place in the middle of the afternoon. This brazen attempt of daylight robbery was botched almost immediately, leading to a fatal confrontation. Charges of attempted hijacking and murder await these thugs once they are caught, as the surviving victim continues to fight for her life in hospital.

Gauteng SAPS on the hunt for suspects

Brigadier Mathapelo Peters is a spokesperson for the police in Gauteng. The officer detailed a few key findings from their early investigation, revealing the identity of the getaway car and how the incident unfolded.

“It is reported that the injured woman was driving their Nissan X-Trail on Tuesday afternoon when they stopped at a red traffic light at the intersection of Maple Road and Main Road near Kyalami, Midrand. This is where the hijacking was attempted.”

“Two men allegedly stormed the couple’s vehicle and attempted to get inside the Nissan X-Trail, which then allegedly rolled back downhill and landed in a ditch. Shots were allegedly fired from the suspects’ vehicle and the female driver was wounded in the upper body and her husband killed. The suspects escaped in a white Audi A4.”
