Hey ho, we’re the most admired

Hey ho, we’re the most admired country in Africa! Big fish, teeny tiny pond

SA and Egypt rank as the continent’s most beloved, while Kenya and Nigeria comes in last… again.

Hey ho, we’re the most admired

Well, as far as Europe is concerned, we’re the coolest kid on the poverty-stricken, corrupt, war-torn block. Egypt, interestingly — what with their tendency to kill — comes in at a very close second.

According to the Nation Brands Index, Germany, Britain, India and Italy are our biggest fans. The survey, compiled by research firm Anholt-Gfk, looks at 50 countries worldwide. 20 000 people throughout the world are quizzed on 23 qualities across six categories (exports, governance, culture, people, tourism and immigration/investment).

They love our ultra-vibrant culture, awesomely beautiful landscape, first class athletes, heritage and the friendliness of our people. Unfortunately, our government doesn’t get the same love and is coined as the only weak link in the rainbow chain.

While the rest of the world loves us, it seems we love ourselves even more… except, you guessed it, we hate our government. It really is the only thing holding us back.

The top ten most admired countries in the word are as follows:

  • Germany
  • United States
  • United Kingdom
  • France
  • Canada
  • Japan
  • Italy
  • Switzerland
  • Australia
  • Sweden

No surprises there then, oh and really sorry to hear about your sh*t Nigeria and Kenya… but not really.
