The ANC’s NEC kicks off this weekend and Zuma’s relationship with the Guptas will take centre stage. Here are the names of those responsible for what comes next.
The ruling party’s National Executive Committee meeting starts this weekend and, while there are other matters to discuss, there’s really only one thing South Africans are interested in; will the party protect Jacob Zuma and the Guptas as they have in the past, or will they grow some balls and deal with the problem.
Last Sunday the Sunday Times reported that the politically connected Gupta family offered deputy finance minister Mcebisi Jonas the position of finance minister, two weeks prior to the catastrophic sacking of then finance minister Nhlanhla Nene.
Jonas has since confirmed the allegations, as have other senior ANC members, saying that they were also offered positions by the Guptas; or have knowledge of the family’s involvement in political matters.
True to form the Gupta family denied all the accusations, but the case building against them is strengthened daily by more and more senior politicians spilling the beans. Zuma too has denied the Guptas’ involvement in hiring cabinet ministers.
Gupta-owned media have since claimed that “reliable sources” informed them that this is all just a political ploy cooked up by an “anti-Zuma faction” within the ANC which is aimed at removing him as president. Let’s be as conspicuous as possible in trying to cover this shit up…worst crisis-management strategy ever.
While some believe Zuma will come out of this unscathed and with more influence than ever, we can only wait and see. His power might not dwindle, but the ANC’s sure as shit will.
Here are the names of those responsible for either protecting Zuma and the Guptas or growing a pair and upholding the constitution of both the ANC and the Republic.
