The Luxe 100 Best Awards aim to celebrate the best the South African hospitality industry has to offer. The Hospitality Counsel hosted the inaugural ceremony at the Houghton Hotel this week. To say it was glamorous would be an understatement.

It looks like you will have to update your bucket list and make time to visit these destinations on the winning list. The Luxe 100 Best Awards, in the spirit of celebrating the best in hospitality, crowned the top 10 industry players in their various fields including best and top chefs, wine farms, game lodges, restaurants, boutique hotels and bars among others.

ONLY THE BEST WILL DO

This is how it works: 100 destinations and individuals are nominated. The top 10 in each category are shortlisted. From the shortlist,10 leaders in each category are selected and winners then receive awards during the ceremony. The judging is done by industry experts using data collected from customer reviews

The who’s who of the hospitality industry; restaurant owners, chefs, and critics attended the ceremony which was hosted by international media personality Shashi Naidoo.

Extravagant was high-key the order of the day – from the imported orchids to the Africology candles, renowned event specialist Vicky Crease left no detail to chance.

And just like that, Babylonstoren was one of the night’s biggest winners scooping three entries in the top 10 and named the Best Wine Farm, and Best Spa and then being awarded the Best Hotel in South Africa.

Chef Mmabatho Molefe, the head chef and owner of Emazulwini Restaurant at the V&A Waterfront’s Makers Landing was crowned Chef of the year.
