BRUTAL BUS ROBBERY LEAVES TWO WOMEN DEAD

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the trio of armed suspects boarded the bus, which belongs to the Copperbelt Bus Company, in Pretoria and pretended to be innocent passengers.

“As it passed Mantsole Weigh Bridge along the N1 road [near Bela-Bela, Limpopo], one of the suspects allegedly produced a firearm and shot through the front windscreen, forcing the driver to pull over,” said Mojapelo.

After the first shot went off, the two other suspects allegedly shot three women passengers. Two were killed instantly, and one was left critically injured.

The suspects then forced the passengers from the bus and told them to lie on the ground before taking their belongings, including cash, cellphones and passports.

The suspects escaped in a vehicle that was allegedly following the bus.

The Bela-Bela police are investigating two counts of murder, attempted murder and armed robbery.

“The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has ordered that the suspects be hunted down and brought to book,” said the Limpopo police spokesperson.

Members of the public with information that could lead to the arrest of the alleged bus robbers are encouraged to contact the investigating officer Captain Dana Smith at 081-577-4383 or call the Crime Stop hotline at 08600-10111.
