The Free State Department of Education has called for a bus driver filmed kicking and punching a Grade 12 learner from Hanover Farm School to be permanently barred from working with children.

It is not yet clear where the incident happened, but it happened on Monday, 30 January, and the school is located near Bultfontein, Lejweleputswa District.

It is not clear what caused the fight between the driver and the learner but the driver can be seen leaving his seat and heading straight to the young boy.

The driver then begins shoving him, the learner tries to retaliate and that is when the driver begins punching him a couple of times and also kicks him. Other younger learners who are seemingly traumatised by the incident can be heard screaming.

The MEC for the Department of Education in the Free State, Dr Tate Makgoe, has since condemned the incident.

According to the department the bus driver is 56-year-old and the learner is 17-years-old.
