Health MEC to visit Hammanskraal after seven die from gastroenteritis

According to the Gauteng Health Department, seven people from Hammanskraal have died from a diarrhoeal disease.

Gauteng Health MEC is expected to visit Jubilee District Hospital in Hammanskraal on Sunday, 21 May after the recent outbreak of diarrhoeal disease cases in the area.

At least seven people have died from the outbreak. 

HEALTH MEC TO VISIT HAMMANSKRAAL 

According to the Gauteng Health Department, since Monday, 15 May 2023 to date, 67 people from Kanana, Suurman, Majaneng and Green Field in Hammanskraal have presented at the hospital with symptoms of diarrhoea, stomach cramps and vomiting which unfortunately led to seven of them passing away.

The department said provincial and district outbreak response teams were dispatched to Jubilee Hospital and the affected areas on Saturday, 20 May to further investigate the source of the diarrhoeal disease and to raise awareness among communities. 

“Already, stool specimens have been collected from some of the affected people. The results are expected from the laboratory during the course of the weekend. The Outbreak Response Teams remain on high alert with advocacy and education work continuing especially targeting the immediately affected areas, the department said.
