‘Gruesome discovery’: Two burnt bodies found next to carcasses at dump

The burnt bodies of two men were found next to three cattle carcasses at a dump site in Mpumalanga on Monday.

A community member came across the burnt bodies of two men at a dump site near Bushbuckridge on Monday, 9 January, and promptly alerted the police. The Mpumalanga authorities have launched an urgent investigation into the matter and are attempting to find the victims’ families.

BURNT BODIES FOUND AT DUMP SITE IN MPUMALANGA

The dump site where the bodies were found is in Casteel outside Acornhoek, Mpumalanga, said police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli. The community member discovered the bodies at approximately 19:30 on Monday.

“Police were alerted by a community member about the gruesome discovery and upon arrival at the scene, medical practitioners were summoned to the scene where both the male victims were declared dead,” said the police spokesperson.

Mdhluli added that three cattle carcasses were found next to the burnt bodies. The police are trying to find the victims’ families in order to identify them.

“The motive behind the killing is unknown at the moment pending investigations. A post-mortem will also be conducted to determine the cause of death,” he said.

Finding the owners of the cattle will form part of the police investigation.
