The case of a man accused of assaulting a teenager outside a fish and chips shop in Groblersdal, Limpopo, has been postponed.

GROBERSDAL ASSAULT – CORRIE PRETORIUS FACES TWO CHARGES

Corrie Pretorius appeared in the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on charges of pointing a firearm and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

National Prosecuting Authority NPA spokesperson in Limpopo Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said: “Pretorius appeared without his attorney. As a result, the matter was postponed… for a new legal representative.”

Corrie was filmed viciously attacking, kicking, and stomping a defenseless teenager while brandishing a gun.

He was arrested in June this year after the duo allegedly had an argument over salt seasoning.

IT IS BELIEVED THERE WAS AN ARGUMENT OVER SALT SEASONING

When he appeared in court, ANC and EFF supporters protested outside to demand that he not be given bail.

Corrie said he was assaulted while in custody.

In an affidavit read out by his lawyer, advocate JJ Venter, Corrie said he fears for his life:

“Due to the nature of the charges and the allegations as covered in detail by the media, my life is under threat in correctional services.”

Pretorius said in his affidavit.

The affidavit further stated that he was severely assaulted while incarcerated.

CORRIE WAS ALLEGEDLY SEVERELY ASSAULTED IN PRISON

“It cannot be stated that I am not faced with the distinct possibility of being assaulted again.”

Pretorius said in his affidavit.

Corrie also said he was deeply traumatised by what had transpired in prison and was faced with the constant threat of a life-ending attack in prison.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation.

The family of the teenager told the media earlier this year he was going through a lot of pain, and they were worried about whether he would recover from the alleged assault.

THE TEENAGER WAS HOSPITALISED AFTER THE ASSAULT

The mom said she was worried because her son had asthma but was discharged from the hospital and would have a check-up on Wednesday.

Asked how the family found out about the attack, his mother said a bloodied Kopano came home with his friends to inform them.

The boy came back home with his friends all beaten up, and they told us the story that a white man beat him up.

She also said the family of Corrie has not even tried to reach out to them to ask for forgiveness or explain themselves.
