A Grade 10 Isizulu lesson was abruptly disrupted by a truck that ended up taking over the lesson in Cosmo City, north of Johannesburg

A Grade 10 isiZulu lesson was abruptly disrupted by a truck that ended up taking over the lesson.

GRADE 10 ISIZULU CLASS RELIVE THE TRUCK NIGHTMARE

Earlier today, Wednesday, 18 January, Grade 10 learners of Blue Eagle High School were injured after a truck ploughed into their classroom.

Blue Eagle High School is situated on corner Tanzania and Liberia Streets in Extension 2.

A learner who wished to be named Nono recounted the incident that left half of the class injured and the rest traumatised.

“A short while later, I observed that my teacher was on the ground and that some of my classmates were bleeding,” she recalled.

“We thank God that no one lost their life in the tragedy.”

CASUALITIES DURING THE ACCIDENT

At least fifteen children between the ages of 14 and 18 were rushed to hospital by paramedics.

Initially, onlookers reported that two learners were injured.

The cause of the accident has been subject to police investigation. Meanwhile, the Cosmo Chronicle has reported that the truck driver was arrested by the local police.

It is understood that the truck drove through the palisade fence and was stopped by the wall of the classroom.

Meanwhile, a week ago, five people were killed, and several others were left injured when a truck crashed into three taxis and pedestrians in Poortview, Roodepoort on Thursday, 12 January.

Various emergency services including ER24 and Emer-G-Med responded to the scene of the accident at around 13:30 to find several cars, a truck and three taxi’s on the side of the road.

A large number of patients were seen scattered around the scene.

Medics examined the patients and found that three women and one man had died as a result of their injuries.

Nine patients were treated on the scene. Four people were found in critical condition, while the other five had minor to moderate injuries.

Medics treated the patients and provided advanced life-support interventions to the critically injured.

Unfortunately, one of the critical patients succumbed to their injuries and was declared dead after some time.

The remaining patients were transported to various hospitals for further care after being treated.

Exact details of this incident are unknown, but local authorities were on the scene to conduct further investigations.
