Despite the rumour mill going into overdrive that Grace Mugabe had fled Zimbabwe, it has been confirmed that she is still in the country.

Zanu-PF representative in the UK, Nick Mangawana, was speaking to Voice Of America (VOA), Zimbabwe edition.

Mangawana said that Grace Mugabe contributed to the current situation in by undermining the command of the defence forces, and using youth rallies to address personal issues.

Mrs. Mugabe has been at the centre of the storm since the military rolled into Harare on Tuesday evening. Even before the current situation unfolded, she has not had a good year.

From needing diplomatic immunity to avoid a court case after allegedly assaulting a young model in Johannesburg to feuding with now fired Emmerson Mnangagwa and her nickname “First Shopper”. Grace – and her faction – are believed to be at the centre of the coup-that-is-not-a-coup.

The situation in Zimbabwe remains uncertain with conflicting reports on whether or not President Robert Mugabe is willing to hand over power. Other than one statement aired on the national broadcaster on Wednesday, the military has not communicated with the public at all.

Some reports suggest that Mugabe is being afforded the courtesy of negotiating a safe and smooth exit, but others suggest that he is refusing to go.

South Africa has sent a delegation for crisis talks with Mugabe and the milltary commanders who are holding him under house arrest. Defence Minister Nosiviwe Maphisa-Nqakula and State Security Minister Bongani Bongo are part of the delegation who arrived on Wednesday night.

Reuters reported that Mugabe’s rival, the ousted Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has been plotting a “post-Mugabe vision” for Zimbabwe for more than a year, alongside the military and opposition. Reuters claims this information was revealed in Zimbabwean intelligence documents it had seen.
