Gqeberha security guard shot in the head by a group of 10 attackers

A 45-year-old security guard was shot in the head when a group of 10 attackers surprised them at an electrical depot in Swartkops, Gqeberha.

A group of ten attackers shot a 45-year-old security guard in the head at an electrical depot in Swartkops, Gqeberha on Saturday morning. 

POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A MURDER 

According to police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu the group attacked the security guards at around 05:00. 

“It is alleged that at about 00:50, two security guards were in the guard room when they noticed someone at their door. The suspects then tried to lock them inside but the guards managed to open the door.”

She said one of the guards managed to escape while the suspects held his colleague inside the guard room.

“When two shots were fired outside, the guard in the room managed to escape.

“After that, about ten suspects were seen fleeing the depot. He found his colleague lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his head.”

Naidu furthermore said nothing was taken from the premises.

Police are investigating a case of murder.

Meanwhile, Four balaclava-clad men attacked a couple on their farm in Hankey in the Eastern Cape. 

FOUR ARMED MEN BROKE THE GLASS OF A SLIDING DOOR AND STORMED INTO HOUSE

The police spokesperson said Sergeant Majola Nkohli police are investigating a case of house robbery.

“On Thursday evening, 19 August 2021 at about 18:45, it is alleged that four men wearing balaclavas and all armed with firearms broke the glass of a sliding door and stormed into a farmhouse near R331 in Hankey.”

Nkohli said the couple was held at gunpoint, and the victims aged 56 and 60 were also tied with electric cables.

“It is said that the suspects opened a safe, where they stole a firearm with an unknown number of rounds of ammunition.”

He said the suspects also made off with jewellery, two flat-screen televisions, a laptop, cellphones, and liquor.  

“About an hour after the attack, the victims managed to free themselves and activated an alarm. The victims were not injured during the incident. A case of house robbery was opened for further investigation.”
