Gordhan confident SA won’t slip into recession in 2017

The finance minister has assured South Africans that things are looking up.


Addressing the National Union of Metalworkers (Numsa) at the union’s 2016 congress, Pravin Gordhan had a message of hope for the coming year.

While the minister admitted that 2017 will be a challenging year, he added that things are looking up and we’re headed for recovery.

“One of the comrades asked me earlier on are we approaching a second recession. Well the answer is we don’t think so. In terms of the numbers that we see, we believe the that we are in the process of recovering, but the key question is how we all work together,” Gordhan told folks at Numsa’s very first congress since it split with Cosatu.
