Former Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan better hope he doesn’t get called out for “ill-discipline”. Zizi Kodwa apparently warned Gordhan previously about his behavior, so we’ll see how this goes down.

Speaking at a lecture on state capture at the University of Johannesburg, Gorhdan did not mince his words. He started off saying that state capture is not just robbing young people of jobs, but also eating away at the country’s morality.

He said that everyone knows what’s going in the country and everyone knows “who is stealing”. Gordhan added that “anything goes” to get political support. Even lies”.

Mcebisi Jonas later joined Gordhan on stage and had a good old whack at the failing leadership himself.

“Given the low levels of discipline in the state and political leadership, we have got to change the mindset.

“We must accept the reality that our country is in a crisis of leadership,” said Jonas.

Since he was fired from his post as Finance Minister, Gordhan has become a loud voice opposing state capture. He has regularly encouraged citizens to mobilize and stand together.

A trove of e-mails leaked to Daily Maverick, amaBhungane and News24 has unearthed many intricacies of just how far state capture goes. It feels a bit like we’ve all got leaks fatigue since every day new evidence emerges of just how bad things are.

Meanwhile, Shaun Abrahams is nowhere to be seen.
