Social media users have blasted ANC treasurer Paul Mashatile after he was seen in a leaked video handing out cash to congregants in Makhado, Limpopo over the weekend where the ANC was campaigning for votes.

In the video which was posted by fired Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans’ Association (MKMVA) spokesperson Carl Niehaus, Mashatile was seen handing out cash to a number of people who were dancing towards him to collect money.

Some of them were wearing ANC T-shirts and some were not.

LUTHULI HOUSE STAFF NOT PAID IN THREE MONTHS

The video has since drawn criticisms from South Africans on social media who slammed the ANC for not paying its staff at Luthuli House for three months.

Many claimed the ANC had double standards and that some ANC members did not join the party to serve the public but joined it for their own nefarious reasons to mislead people.

However, Mashatile has defended his actions saying that he was handing out money to his colleagues during the tithe offering

“It is not true that I was handing out money to the congregants. We attended a church service in Makhado and during the tithe offering I handed money to my team so that I’m not the only one contributing to the offering,” Mashatile said to Independent Online (Iol)

He said this is something very common in church where people share money and it was not an attempt to buy votes.

MASHATILE: ANC WANTS TO RECLAIM ALL 38 WARDS

Mashatile said the ANC was seeking to reclaim all 38 wards in the Makhado Municipality in Limpopo.

“We are putting in all efforts to win the ward back. The biggest challenge the community faces is water. There is an interruption to the supply of water.”

“Our motto is ‘Let’s build better communities together’ so we are saying to the people that we acknowledge the problem of water and we are going to work with them to address this,” he said.
