Girl, 3, raped and murdered allegedly by intruder in Eastern Cape

A three-year-old girl was raped and murdered allegedly by an intruder in the Eastern Cape earlier this week.

A three-year-old girl was raped before being murdered in Nonzwakazi Township, Eastern Cape.

Three-year-old Mbalentle Kana was found lifeless in her bed

The community is now calling for justice. The body of three-year-old Mbalentle Kana was found lying in her bedroom earlier this week. Reports revealed that the toddler was sleeping alone and her parents were in another room.

It is believed that an intruder broke in and raped the little girl before suffocating her. Speaking on behalf of the family, Sakhiwo Kana stated that the child’s mother discovered her lifeless body after noticing that their kitchen door was open.

The toddler’s mother stated that she was getting water from the kitchen when she noticed that the door was open. She ran over to her child’s room and that’s when she found her toddler’s lifeless body and started screaming.

Community members want justice

SABC News reported that the residents of Nonzwakazi are not happy with the service by the SAPS following the little girl’s death. Community members allege that after Mbali’s funeral, her case will be among many in the Eastern Cape that are forgotten.

Meanwhile, SAPS spokesperson Thembinkosi Kinana said that investigations into the horrific incident are underway in order to apprehend the suspect.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are not clear at this stage. We are however investigating an inquest. No arrest has been made at this stage,”

said Kinana.

Ex-boyfriend sentenced to 15 years for rape, attempted murder

Previously, it was reported that an ex-boyfriend, who took advantage of the vulnerability of his ex-partner, was sentenced to 15 years for rape and attempted murder.

The Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court sentenced the ex-boyfriend, 37-year-old Thapelo Jeremiah Sekhau from Rocklands, to an effective 15 years imprisonment after he was convicted of rape and attempted murder. Magistrate Carman Parks sentenced Sekhau on Thursday, 8 September. The ex-boyfriend was convicted of raping his ex on 28 September 2018 and attempting to kill her on 1 April 2018.

The court heard that in April 2018, the complainant was on her way home after knocking off from work and met Sekhau who forced her to go with him to his place. Read the full story here.
