Leader of the Patriotic Alliance Gayton McKenzie believes the Department of Home Affairs should be tasked to go to schools and root out all children of illegal foreigners.

GAYTON MCKENZIE DEMANDS SA CHILDREN TO BE PLACED FIRST

“All children of illegal foreigners shouldn’t be allowed in our schools in South Africa,” McKenzie lashed out.

“Home Affairs should visit all schools before we do,” he warned.

“This is nonsense, we must now explain to South African parents why their children cannot be placed in schools, we warned you.”

SCHOOLS DEALING WITH UNPLACED LEARNERS

The remarks follow the frustration that many parents are having to endure as their little ones are yet to be placed in a classroom. Gauteng and Western Cape currently face large volumes of learners waiting to be placed in Grades 1 and 8.
Although the department says it has placed over 290 751 learners, it still has over 1000 unplaced learners.

In Gauteng, majority of the unplaced learners are from the Olifansfontein and Kempton Park areas, according to the Gauteng Department of Education.
In Grade 8, the Kempton Park area had about 501 unplaced learners while the Johannesburg West District had 434 followed by Tshwane District with 223.

OVERCROWDING WILL BE THE LAST RESORT

“This is a double-edged sword. We are left with a situation where some of our schools will be overcrowded or we are going to have a situation where some of our learners will be at home, not being in school. So we have to make a choice there and we are making a choice that every child must be in a school. We will deal with everything else when the child is wearing a uniform in school. That is a priority… we are determined that we deliver on that,” Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane opened up.
