Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader Gayton McKenzie has reiterated Thabo Bester’s life will come to an end in the not-so-distant future. McKenzie’s statement comes after Bester, also known as the Facebook rapist, appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 14 April 2023.

In a tweet, McKenzie said: “Thabo Bester is already a dead man. He will be stabbed by a prisoner. He is a walking ATM in jail for the 26 gang. You can never run away from a hit issued by the numbers gang ( nothing personal, just big money).”

McKenzie, who is the current mayor of the Central Karoo District Municipality, is a former prisoner himself after being convicted of robbery in the 1990s.

When the couple went to ground in late March 2023, McKenzie first predicted that they would be killed, also implying that their deaths would be sanctioned by important, albeit unnamed, people.

“The Dr [Nandipha Magudumana] girlfriend will soon be killed together with Thabo Bester. You don’t pull such a brilliant escape without very powerful politicians, cops and prison officials. These officials and politicians are now hunting harder for the suspects,” he said at the time.

He also previously weighed in on the possible futures of Bester and his fugitive lover Magudumana, saying the duo would be “killed as a cover-up”.

Poisoning fears

Earlier during Friday’s court appearance, Bester – through his lawyer – told the magistrate that he had concerns about his safety, saying he had not eaten since being held at the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre in Tshwane. He said he was scared of being poisoned.

His lawyer also said Bester wished to personally address the court, but this request was denied.

Bester and Magudumana landed in South Africa on Thursday, 13 April 2023, in the company of South African law-enforcement officials, after going on the run since late March 2023. They were caught in the city of Arusha, in Tanzania, en route to the country’s border with Kenya.
