Patriotic Alliance (PA) President Gayton Mckenzie offered the South African public a piece of advice this festive season. On Wednesday, 21 December, he took to social media and urged people to be aware of the contents of the parcels they carry this time of year.

MCKENZIE’S ADVICE FOR FESTIVE TRAVELLERS

People are often asked to carry gifts and parcels across the country in December as they make their way to the homes of friends and family.

“No friend should ask you to bring a gift or parcel from another city to them without you knowing what it is, you should open and wrap it yourself,” said Mckenzie.

“Jail is full of people with kind hearts and mean friends. Wrapping paper is cheap,” said the ex-convict turned politician who spent many years in prison. He is the current mayor of the Central Karoo District in the Western Cape.

As previously reported, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) said thousands of motorists have been arrested for various offences on South African roads since the start of the festive period on 1 December.

“This comes as the country prepares for the second peak in traffic volumes on national roads this week as more travellers will be making their way to various destinations for the Christmas holidays,” said RTMC spokesperson Simon Zwane.
