A 28-year-old suspect has been arrested and will appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court today Tuesday, 13 April, on a charge of murder. He is accused of killing a homosexual man at his Kwanobuhle home in the Eastern Cape.

Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the suspect’s family became suspicious when they found him burning his bedding at his home.

“On 1 April 2021, the family reported the malicious damage to property to police and indicated that they were suspicious that he may have been involved in some other criminal activity. Police went to the house and found bloodstains inside his room as well as outside,” she said.

GAY MAN FOUND BURIED IN SUSPECT’S YARD

Naidu said the suspect was hospitalised for his mental condition from 1 April to 9 April.

“On his discharge from hospital, he was arrested and detained for the malicious damage to property. While detectives were questioning him, information emerged relating to the murder of 40-year-old Andile Ntuthela.”

She added that Ntuthela was gay. “The murder is suspected to be LGBTQI  linked.”

Ntuthela’s body was later found buried in the suspect’s yard on 10 April.

FRIENDS PAY TRIBUTE ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Those who knew Ntuthela expressed their shock on social media. Sixolile Ndlondlo, who wrote on Facebook, said she lost two friends in one month.

“Today, I discovered that the said ‘Gay man’ was Lulu/Lubeto. I’m scared for my life and that of others when something like this happens to our brother. Lulu was a kind and loving soul. He did not deserve to exit life the way he did. He was killed, chopped into pieces, burnt and buried. Girls, I urge you to take caution and watch who you are engaging with and where you are at. We are not safe. Some may know Lulu from Nkumanda Street. And some may know him as he was residing at Langa Location. May his soul rest in peace. I’ve lost two friends in one month.”
