Gauteng law enforcement, together with the provincial education department, led a purge on targeted schools and what they found motivated the increasing number of violent attacks that occur in these institutes of learning.

Gauteng school raid: Which institutions were raided?

Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko, has led the charge against pupils who perpetrate violence and promote drug abuse in schools.

Her office, in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies, has been conducting surprise raids at schools in Gauteng that are believed to be the most violent. This comes in the wake of the events that recently unfolded at Thuto-Tiro High School.

This is part of the Take Charge campaign, a concerted effort by the government to address matters related to gender-based violence and crimes committed in schools.

Last week, the team conducted surprise raids in a number of schools in Hammanskraal and recovered a range of illicit items such as dagga and knives.

A 17-year-old, wanted for allegedly breaking into Tshwaraganang Children’s Live Home earlier this year, was spotted and placed under arrest/

This time around, Gauteng law enforcement zeroed in on the West Rand, as well as townships like Evaton and Westorania.

This is what was recovered

At Qedilizwe Secondary School, in Evaton, two learners were found in possession of dagga and a knife.

It was not indicated which school these pupils were from but it is believed that they were arrested for attempting to burn their school.

The school is not known but Gauteng police also recovered a loaded gun and drugs from this learner’s bag

The raid also stopped by at Simunye Secondary School in Westorania. The search was still on-going at the time of publishing this article.
