Gauteng Highway Patrol arrest four for business robbery

Four business robbery suspects ran out of luck after they were intercepted by the Gauteng Highway Patrol members in the east

The Gauteng Highway Patrol together with Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) K9 unit apprehend four suspects following a business robbery incident.

GAUTENG HIGHWAY PATROL INTERCEPT WANTED SUSPECTS


The Gauteng highway Patrol nabbed the four suspects on Friday, 12 August near Leopards Rest in Alberton, east of Johannesburg.

“The members intercepted the suspects’ vehicle after it collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Kliprivier and JG Strydom roads near Leopards Rest, four suspects were apprehended.”

ALL THE ITEMS SEIZED FROM THE SUSPECTS’ VEHICLE



A search led the members to recover three unlicensed firearms, ammunition, cellphones, number plates and cash.

The suspects’ vehicle was also impounded.

According to the the South African Police Service (SAPS), one suspect managed to flee the scene and evaded his arrest.

“The suspects are expected to appear before a Magistrates’ Court soon, while further investigation is underway.”

A BITTER-SWEET SUCCESS FOR THE POLICE THE SAME DAY

On the same day (Friday), police took out suspected cash-in-transit robbers in the south.

“Four suspected cash in transit robbers were fatally wounded during a shootout with police following a cash in transit robbery along the Nasrec Road in Soweto, Johannesburg on Friday afternoon.”

“One police officer sustained gunshot injuries and was taken to hospital for medical attention,” the police reported.

Police have urged anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects to come forward.

“Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the remaining suspects is urged to contact the nearest police or call our CrimeStop number 08600 10111 or inform the police anonymously through the MySAPS App”.
