FREE STATE CASH HEIST SUSPECTS USED STOLEN VAN

The G4S security guards were going about their work at 11:45 am on Monday, when they were violently confronted by the armed gang who are believed to have been using a stolen Nissan NP 300 van.

The vehicle was stolen in a hijacking in the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality area which includes Bloemfontein, Thaba’ Nchu, Dewetsdorp, Wepener and Botshabelo.

NO NEW DEVELOPMENTS – 72 HOUR ACTIVATION PLAN IN PLACE

Mathe says the deceased security guard was disarmed by the group shortly before he was shot and left for dead. She says he was declared dead by emergency medical personnel.

The armed gang is believed to have secured an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene in a white Ford Ranger.

Mathe says there are no new developments at this stage.

The National Police Commissioner Khehla Sitole has called for the activation of the police’s 72-hour plan to apprehend the assailants. The plan involves the use of varying resources to track the suspects.

Police are calling on eyewitnesses to come forward with any information.
