A trucker was allegedly hijacked and assaulted in the early hours of Tuesday, 14 June along Old Airport Road, Isipingo. Security company PT Alarms revealed that the truck driver was found bound inside his vehicle.

A taxi driver led the private security members to the fuel tanker

At around 3:25 on 14 June, a taxi driver contacted PT Alarms’ Tactical Unit, Armed Response and Ambulance members. The alert was with regard to a possible truck driver in distress.

PT members reportedly followed the taxi driver to the location of the truck driver. There they found a fuel tanker on the side of the road. After calling out for the driver, he responded from the inside and informed members about what had happened to him.

Truck driver alleges the suspects were foreigners

“On further inspection and upon calling out for the driver, he responded from inside the truck that he was tied up and hijacked. The truck driver was found bound with cable ties. The driver of the fuel tanker alleged that he was hijacked at M7/N2 intersection by 3 armed suspects, believed to [be] foreigners, in a white BMW,”

said PT Alarms.

PT Alarms stated that the truck driver said he was kicked on his leg and back. He further alleged that the suspects drove his truck to an unknown location before emptying the tanker. The suspects then left the truck on Old Airport Road.

SAPS were informed about the matter

Isipingo South African Police Service (SAPS) have reportedly been informed about the incident. PT Alarms said their ambulance paramedics assessed the driver.

Both the truck driver and fuel tanker were escorted to Bellair SAPS for further processing.
