Fuel comparison: What petrol and diesel cost 12 months ago

While SA motorists saw a significant petrol and diesel price decrease earlier this week, a look back 12 months ago makes for sobering reading.

While South African motorists are breathing a sign of relief at the significant petrol and diesel price decrease earlier this week, a look back at the price 12 months ago makes for sobering reading.

As a reminder, at midnight on Tuesday, 3 January 2023, petrol decreased by R2.06 per litre for both 93 and 95 octanes, while the 0.05% diesel price dropped by R2.69 per litre and the 0.005% diesel price by R2.81 per litre.

That brought current INLAND prices to the following:

However, looking back to January 2022, one quickly realises just how much more Mzansi motorists are forking out these days every time they fill up:

Despite the most recent decreases, petrol 93 has increased by R1.74 and petrol 95 by R1.79 over the last year.

Diesel has seen a far bigger price hike over the last 12 months by R3.98 (0.05%) and R4.14 (0.005%).

However, as reported by The South African website, although still early days, the latest data shows another petrol and diesel price cut could be on the cards for next month.
