Four people lost their lives while fourteen others sustained injuries ranging from serious to minor in a collision on the N12 in Westonaria, close to the R28, on Wednesday evening.
ER24 spokesperson Ineke van Huyssteen said the collision was between a taxi and a light motor vehicle (BMW).
ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after 19:30 and found multiple patients on the scene.
“Unfortunately, four people were found to have sustained fatal injuries and were declared dead at the scene by paramedics,”
said van Huyssteen.
Two other people sustained serious injuries, while twelve others were found to have sustained minor injuries.
ER24, GPG, and another medical service at the scene treated the patients before transporting them to various hospitals for further medical care.
She said the exact circumstances surrounding the are not known to their paramedics, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
Meanwhile, earlier his week two people were killed and three injured when a light motor vehicle crashed into a light pole on the N12 in Johannesburg South.
ER24 and the City of Johannesburg EMS arrived at 19:00 to find a light motor vehicle smashed against a light pole.
“On closer inspection, medics found a man and a woman lying trapped in the front of the car.
“Unfortunately, both patients had already succumbed to their numerous injuries. Nothing could be done for them, and they were declared dead,”
said van Huyssteen.
Two other women and a baby were tended to on the scene.
One woman was in a critical condition, while the other woman and baby girl had sustained moderate injuries.
Medics treated the patients and provided the critically injured woman with advanced life support before they were all transported to a nearby hospital for further care.
