Deputy President of the EFF Floyd Shivambu has found himself in hot water with the authorities, after clocking up speeds of almost 200km/h on the N1.
News24 report he was pulled over by police in Winburg, Free State for racing down the highway last week. The area was a 120km/h zone, but Shivambu went 1.5 times over the speed limit.
Meanwhile, The Citizen reports that he was on his way to the University of the Free State’s main campus following his arrest and release. Shivambu was travelling to the institution to address the EFF’s student command, ahead of student representative council (SRC) elections.
Steaming down the carriageway in his white Range Rover, police say he was entirely cooperative with them. He was flagged down, had his details taken and eventually saw his car impounded before he was allowed to pick it up shortly afterwards.
In fact, Shivambu’s vehicle has been quite the discussion point on social media…
We are being misled by EFF FIGHTERS – who masquerades as socialists during the day and roll with their Range Rovers when they’re away from the glare of the cameras.

I don’t understand, this is an article about Shivambu being arrested for allegedly speeding…. what does that have to do with what he drives? Am not an EFF member so forgive my ignorance , did they mybe take a vow of poverty or something when they entered politics?

He was also required to pay a bail fee for his transgression. He was released after coughing up the R2 000 required and continued on his journey to Bloemfontein.
Free State police, roads and transport department spokesperson Hillary Mophethe confirmed the news earlier on Thursday evening. His court appearance in Winburg – a small farming town between Welkom and Bloemfontein – will take place on Friday, and is expected to be a brief affair.
