Five-year-old critically injured in single-vehicle rollover on R550 near Sky City

Paramedics said a five-year-old boy had suffered critical injuries in a single-vehicle rollover on the R550 near Sky City.

A five-year-old boy has suffered critical injuries, and a 31-year-old woman had moderate injuries in a single-vehicle rollover on the R550 near Sky City in Vereeniging on Sunday morning.

THE LITTLE BOY WAS EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE DURING THE ROLLOVER

According to ER24 spokesperson Ross Campbell, paramedics arrived on the scene at 11:09 along with the Ekurhuleni Fire Department. 

“The light motor vehicle was 5 to 10 meters from the road and the two injured occupants had been ejected from the vehicle and were lying on the ground. 

“The driver of the vehicle was found uninjured, but the five-year-old boy was in a critical condition and required Advanced Life Support interventions before being flown by medical helicopter to a private hospital for further care.”

He said the 31-year-old woman was found to have suffered moderate injuries and was treated and transported to Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital for further care.

On Sunday afternoon, a six-year-old boy and his father were knocked down by a vehicle on the R554 in Alberton.

Campbell said the accident happened on the R554 in Newmarket, Alberton, on Sunday afternoon.

“ER24 paramedics were first on the scene at 14:40. The boy was found lying on the gravel shoulder of the road, having suffered multiple critical injuries. The father was uninjured in the incident.”

Campbell said the boy was treated using Advanced Life Support interventions to stabilise his condition before he was flown by private medical helicopter to a private hospital in Benoni for emergency care.

“The driver of the vehicle was also uninjured in the incident.

“The EMPD, the Fire Department as well as another private Emergency Medical Service were all on the scene to help as well as investigate.”
