Five shot dead while drinking alcohol at a tuck shop in KZN

Police have urged anyone with information regarding the brutal murder of five men who were shot dead in Ndwedwe to come forward.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has appealed for information after five people were shot dead at 13:30 at Ndwedwe Mission when they were attacked by unknown gunmen.

The incident happened on Saturday, 5 November around 13:00 and the group of men were sitting on a veranda of a tuck-shop and drinking.  

FIVE SHOT DEAD IN NDWEDWE 

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) the suspects opened fire on the group who were drinking alcohol while taking cover from the rain. The gunmen fled the scene directly afterwards. 

Four individuals were declared dead at the scene while three were taken to hospital for medical attention. One of the men later died in hospital. The deceased are aged between 21 and 43 years old. 

Police have since appealed to the members of the community to come forward with information that can assist in the investigation. Anyone who has information regarding the shooting has been requested to contact Crime  Stop on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS app. 

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi condemned the ruthless attack. 

Mkhwanazi said he has instructed a team of seasoned detectives from the Provincial Organised Crime Unit to investigate the matter. 

“While investigations are still ongoing and the team is following certain leads, we have every confidence that the team will make a breakthrough,” he said.
