Four children die from dumpsite poisoning

In a separate incident, four children died allegedly from food poisoning, after playing on a dumpsite about 100m from their shacks in Motherwell NU 30, Port Elizabeth, on 5 January 2020.

According to police spokesperson Captain Andre Beegte, the circumstances of the children’s death are closely linked to the dumpsite located near the NU 30 area.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the four children — Alunamda Mqawu, three, Zintle Mqawu, ten, Alizwa Rhwayibana, five, and Asive Rhwayibana, 11 — may have consumed some food found at the dumpsite.
