Female passenger arrested with drugs over R100 000

The female passenger was reportedly travelling from Johannesburg to Upington and had drugs in her possession.

A female passenger travelling from one province to another was arrested for possession of drugs with an estimated street value of over R100 000.

UPINGTON POLICE APPREHEND FEMALE PASSENGER IN A BUS

Northern Cape Provincial spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam confirmed that the Upington Border police apprehended and arrested a 48-year-old female suspect on Friday, 26 May 2023 for dealing in drugs.

“The team received information of a female passenger who is travelling from Johannesburg to Upington who allegedly had drugs in her possession,” said Sergeant Sam.

THE TOTAL VALUE OF THE DRUGS

“The team operationalised the information, obtained the relevant search and seizure warrants, and waited for her at the bus stop. On arrival of the bus, the police searched her bags at the parking area and found dagga to the value of approximately R130 000-00,” he added.

“She was immediately detained and charged for dealing in drugs.”

He further said the female passenger is expected to appear in the Upington Magistrate Court soon.


“Policing of all drug-related crimes remains one of the SAPS priorities and the SAPS will continue to robustly and vigorously clamp down on drug trafficking,” Sergeant Sam assured.

Meanwhile, efforts to rid the streets of the Western Cape of the illegal firearms and drugs yielded positive results when members of the Anti-Gang Unit searched a premises in Southam Street, Stradford Green, Eerste River on Sunday afternoon, 28 May 2023.
The members received information about firearms at the identified premises and acted on it. The members found and confiscated a pistol, a revolver, three imitation firearms and ammunition as well as 200 mandrax tablets and ten zip lock plastic bags containing crushed mandrax. Consequently, a 30-year-old female was arrested for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, the possession of imitation firearms and possession of drugs.
