A 21-year-old father from Middelplaas outside Malelane kidnapped and murdered his newborn baby by slitting his throat on Wednesday, 01 March 2023.
FATHER MURDERS HIS NEWBORN BABY
The father was with four friends when he forcefully snatched the newborn boy from his 15-year-old mother.

The worried mother and her family could not report immediately to the police, and they conducted a search.
The next day, on 2 March 2023, the family finally reported the matter to Schoemansdal police station, and they suspected something sinister might have happened to the child.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlal said they immediately launched a manhunt to reunite the little boy with his mother.
Police later found the newborn baby’s body near the reservoir in Middelplaas.
The baby was found wrapped with a bloody blanket and a towel; his throat was cut open. It appears the father murdered his newborn baby by slitting his throat.

A BLOODY BLANKET WAS AROUND THE BABY
Police followed up on information that the suspect was at his uncle’s place at Kamaqhekeza outside Komatipoort, where he arrived with a bag of clothes.
Schoemansdal police arrested the suspects at his uncle’s house on Thursday, 2 March 2-23.

The father is facing charges of kidnapping and murder of the newborn baby and defeating the ends of justice.
FATHER FACES CHARGES OF MURDER AND KIDNAPPING
Police will add a charge of s statutory rape because the mother is underage. He will appear in court soon.

The Mpumalanga acting provincial commissioner Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, vehemently condemned the inhumane behaviour of the suspect.
“When someone’s life is in danger, community members should explore all the avenues to contact the police for assistance.”
