An 89-year-old woman was BRUTALLY beaten to death with a chair by a 15-year-old in her home at Breeland farm on Sunday.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said the teenage boy arrived at Breeland farm, Slanghoek in Rawsonville on Sunday at around 11:40.
“The burglar door was open, and the boy entered the dwelling. When he was approached by the woman, he used a chair to assault the woman,” he said.
The 89-year-old woman was declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel.
“A 15-year-old boy was arrested and detained on a charge of murder and house robbery,” Swartbooi said.
The boy is expected to make a court appearance in the Worcester Magistrate Court soon.
Last month the country was left mortified when farm attackers tried to push a six-year-old boy into the oven in an attempt to force the family to hand over money to them.
A family in Mpumalanga was attacked and overpowered by armed men in broad daylight on Saturday.
Niël Bierman (47), his wife, Sonja (43), and their children, Daniel (13), Jacobus (10), and Gideon (6), miraculously escaped unharmed from the attack.
The family farm is near Ogies and they also runs a guest house for contractors who spend the night in the area. They have been living on the farm for the past 15 years.
The men aimed their weapons at Sonja and the children several times before the safes were unlocked.
“All we kept in the safe was a shotgun, a pistol, and an antique firearm. They took it but repeatedly asked for money, even though I told them we do not keep money in the house,” Sonja explained.
While Sonja tried to keep the children calm, a shot was fired elsewhere in the house.
Sonja said she did not know if her husband were still alive at this stage.
“The men grabbed Gideon and took him to the kitchen, where they started opening the oven.
“My husband watched in fear as they tried to push Gideon into the oven, but he wrestled hard and fought back.”
The men finally gave up but still insisted on money.
