A family of four, reportedly on their way to vacation, were killed in a multi-vehicle accident on the N2.
According to IPSS Medical Rescue, the accident happened between Zinkwazi and Tugela on Thursday evening.
“The IPSS Medical Rescue together with IPSS Search and Rescue division responded to reports of an accident on the N2 Northbound, between Zinkwazi and Tugela.
“On arrival of advanced life support paramedics, they were met with absolute carnage, comprising four light motor vehicles and a truck, which had collided and strewn debris across the roadway,” it said in a statement on Facebook.
Unfortunately, a family of four, reportedly on their way to vacation, were killed while two more patients sustained moderate injuries.
IPSS furthermore said the N2 Northbound was severely affected, and motorists had to use alternative routes as an investigation took place.
Meanwhile, the latest figures on the road deaths, which were released by Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula, show that fatalities have risen in five provinces with exception of the Free State, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu Natal and Limpopo.
The breakdown on road deaths is as follows in these provinces:
“Despite these grim statistics, it is important to note that thousands of road users continue to respect the law and obey the rules of the road. This is a responsibility we must all take seriously in order to make a difference and ensure that our roads are safe to travel on,” Mbalula said.
