The Ntlatseng family from North West was laid to rest this weekend in a mass funeral attended by government officials and community members
A North West family which just buried more than a dozen members who were all killed in a horrific head-on collision has urged authorities to probe the source of a gruesome video of the accident scene, which was leaked.
Fifteen members of the Ntlatseng family were travelling from an event last Saturday when the taxi they were travelling in collided with a truck on the R34 road between Bloemhof and Schweizer-Reneke in the North West.
They all died, along with four other people. The family, which includes a mother, her children, and grandchildren, was laid to rest this weekend in a mass funeral attended by government officials and community members.
The family spokesperson Motse Ntlatseng tells SABC News they are already having trouble coming to terms with the deaths, and have now been left traumatised by the contents of the leaked video.
“We were very much disturbed about the video that was shared on social media. We were disturbed about pictures that we saw, people do not have mercy, we were expecting them to come and uplift our spirits and comfort us. They did not do that, they shared the video, the children are traumatized now at home, instead of healing we keep on bleeding. We urge our South Africans that in future if something of this magnitude happen they must never and we grieve differently and this must not happen again.”
Meanwhile North West MEC for Social Development, Boitumelo Moiloa has also called for an investigation into how the video was leaked.
“As the provincial government, we are going to investigate who leaked that, because of the manner in which it is said. They’re saying the police were the only people, who were at the scene of the accident. So we are going to investigate as government because we can’t continue to do that,” Moiloa said.
