Fake doctor: 53-year-old sentenced for fraud in Klerksdorp

A fake doctor from Klerksdorp has been punished for fraud. Johannes Christiaan van Belkum practised biokinetics without qualifications.

Respect the law “Doc!” The Klerksdorp Regional Court has sentenced a fake doctor for posing as a qualified biokineticist, the judgement was handed on 17 November.

12 MONTHS INDIRECT SENTENCE FOR FAKE DOCTOR IN KLERKSDORP

According to the report from the South African Police Service’s (SAPS) Colonel Katlego Mogale, the 53-year-old Johannes Christiaan van Belkum met his fate after getting handcuffed in March 2021.

The so-called Doc posed as a biokineticist when he was actually never trained in the medical discipline.

“The Klerksdorp Regional Court convicted and sentenced Johannes Christiaan van Belkum (53) to12 months’s direct imprisonment for fraud and contravening the Health Professions Act yesterday, 17 November 2021,” Mogale said.

“Van Belkum practised as a biokineticist in Klerksdorp without qualifications and was not registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.

“He was arrested on 24 March 2021 by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team and charged with seven counts of fraud and contravening the Health Professions Act.

SEPARATE SENTENCES FOR SEVEN COUNTS

After repeated court dates on the stand, van Belkum was eventually sentenced 12 months for each of the seven charges he was nabbed for.

“He made several court appearances until his conviction and sentencing. He was sentenced to 12 months for each count and sentences will run concurrently.

Staying in the North West province, a murder case is expected to be closed after a woman died while facing an allegation of hammering and butchering her husband.

According to the report, the 42-year-old Zimbabwean lady, Nancy Majonhi, died at Moses Kotane Hospital last weekend after going on a hunger strike in the medical facilities.

Majonhi was under police watch after allegedly murdering her husband with a hammer before slaughtering his limbs with a spade.
